I first met Sue when my family moved from one part of Maywood to another. We both were 8yrs old and we became fast friends. Sue was kind and generous by nature and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was spunky and loved adventure and I was in for the ride!  We had many fun times together jumping rope, riding bikes, and building snow forts. Her curfew time was always when the street lights went on and I remember, with a smile, her stopping whatever we were doing at the time to run as fast as she could to her house a block away! We would walk to church every Sunday and once in a while Sue would convince me to skip Sunday School and spend our twenty-five cent offering at the candy store (I'm sure it had to be her idea!) ;) I also will never forget the time we almost started a fire, stuffing and lighting newspapers into an old pot bellied stove we had found in my we panicked when the smoke started billowing from the windows!

As years went by I remember playing our 45s on our portable record player. One of the songs she loved and played over and over, and OVER again was "Donna" by Richie Valens. Years later she would marry Bill (Grace) and give her daughter that very name. Sue got a car before me in her senior year, it was an old Nash Rambler. How excited she was to drive to school in her own car!  The problem was she had not totally mastered the art of driving a manual transmission! Needless to say it was a very scary ride to school, but somehow we laughed all the way!

We did drift apart after High School, although we still sent cards and called each other once in a while. I will never forget my first best friend Sue. Her birthday is November 11. She passed away on my birthday Dec. 29, three yrs ago. Happy birthday Sue, I miss you.......

Sue's passing came as a shock to me...Sue+I were very close friends in high school, and I chose this very sweet, caring, loving person, to be my bridesmaid in my wedding. Some years later we lost contact with one another, then to find out she had moved to Florida......I can only say all good things about Sue, and I will always remember the fun, and her many visits. I believe it to be a small world when I was joined to sit with a new group of people where our summer home is, and to find out I just met Sue's sister....Sue had to be a great loss to all who knew her......
